A collab post is a post or reel with more than one author. When an account accepts your invite, its username appears on the post, the post shows on its profile, and it goes out to its followers as well as yours. That's why collabs are one of the quickest ways to reach a partner's audience.
| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Collaborators per post | Up to 5 |
| Works on | Posts and reels, not stories |
| Who can delete it | Only the original creator |
| Likes and comments | Every collaborator can see them all |
How to invite a collaborator
- 01Create a post or reel as usual.
- 02On the final screen, tap Tag people, then Invite collaborator.
- 03Search for the account and select it.
- 04Share. The post goes up on your profile right away and on theirs once they accept.
Who you can invite
- A public account can invite any account, public or private.
- A private account can only invite accounts that follow it. If a public account accepts, the post becomes visible to the public through that account.
Collab vs tag vs mention
Tagging or mentioning someone doesn't share the post with their followers, and they aren't listed as an author. A collaborator is listed as an author and the post goes to their followers too. Collaborators also have to accept the invite, while tags are added automatically unless the person approves tags manually.
Who controls the post
- The original creator is the post's owner. Only they can delete it, and deleting it removes it from every collaborator's profile.
- A collaborator can remove themselves at any time, and the creator can remove a collaborator. The post stays on the creator's profile.
- If either side blocks the other, the collaboration ends.
- If the creator makes their account private, only their followers can see the post.
