Instagram Notes are short updates, up to 60 characters, that show at the top of your followers' inbox and above your profile photo on your profile. Each note stays up for 24 hours, and you can share one at a time: a new note replaces the old one.

How to post a note

  1. 01Open your inbox, or go to your profile, and tap the bubble above your profile photo.
  2. 02Type up to 60 characters. You can also share music instead of text.
  3. 03Choose the audience, such as the followers you follow back or your Close Friends list.
  4. 04Tap Share.

To take a note down early, tap it and choose Delete note. To change it, leave a new note: it replaces the current one.

Likes and replies

People who see your note can like it or reply. Only you see who liked it, and you can start a chat with any of them from that list. A reply starts a private conversation between you and that person, and it lands in your inbox like any other DM.

How businesses use notes

  • Point to something time-limited: "New drop at 6 pm" or "Last day of the sale".
  • Ask a quick question that's easy to answer by reply, such as "Which color next?"
  • Invite DMs: "Reply PRICE for the menu." Every reply is a conversation you can continue.
