How WhatsApp API pricing works
On the WhatsApp Business Platform (the API), Meta charges per message, not per conversation. Since October 1, 2026 it also charges for service messages past the free 1,000 a month and for utility messages sent as replies.
You pay per delivered message
Meta charges once for each message it delivers to someone. Messages that fail or aren't delivered cost nothing, and neither do messages people send you.
The message type sets the price
Marketing messages cost the most. Utility, authentication and service messages cost less, and on the current rate card those three cost the same as each other in any one country.
So does the country
The rate comes from the country code of the number you message, not where your business is. Countries without their own rate share a regional one.
Volume discounts
Utility and authentication messages get cheaper as you send more to one country in a month. Only the messages past each threshold get the lower rate.
Free messages
The first 1,000 service messages a month on each business number, and everything in the free window after someone messages you from a click-to-WhatsApp ad.
When prices change
Meta only changes prices on January 1, April 1, July 1 or October 1, with at least a month's notice. The rates here are effective October 1, 2026.

WhatsApp pricing questions
How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost?
Meta charges for each message it delivers, at a rate that depends on the message type and the country of the number you send to. For example, a marketing message to a number in Brazil costs $0.0625 and a utility message $0.0068. Setting up the API and receiving messages are free.
Which WhatsApp messages are free?
Messages people send you are always free. Each business phone number also gets 1,000 free service messages a month (replies to people who wrote to you), and when someone messages you from a click-to-WhatsApp ad, everything you send in the free window that opens, for up to 7 days, is free.
Who do I pay for WhatsApp messages?
Meta. Messages are billed to your WhatsApp Business account, using the payment method you add in Meta's billing settings. Software you use to send them, like MuChat, is a separate subscription; MuChat adds nothing on top of Meta's message prices.
Can I send marketing messages to US numbers?
Not at the moment: WhatsApp doesn't deliver marketing templates to US (+1) phone numbers. Utility, authentication and service messages still go through.
How do volume discounts work?
Utility and authentication messages get cheaper as you send more of them to one country in a month, counted across your whole business. Only the messages above each threshold get the lower rate, and the count starts again every month. Marketing and service messages have no volume discounts.
How accurate is this calculator?
It uses Meta's published list rates and volume tiers in US dollars, effective October 1, 2026 and last checked on November 2, 2026. Your bill can differ if you pay in another currency, send from several numbers or send messages in free windows. Meta's billing is what counts.
